Grazia Caleo biography

Grazia Caleo is a medical doctor, public health specialist, and children’s author. She completed a PhD at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine and has worked with Médecins Sans Frontières on emergency responses, including deployments in West Africa during the Ebola epidemic. Her humanitarian fieldwork has also encompassed operations in countries such as Sierra Leone, Eritrea, Mozambique, Niger, the Central African Republic, Zambia, Chad, Guinea, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Haiti, and Bangladesh.

Caleo’s first children’s book, The Secret of the Bush, was created in collaboration with illustrator Kremena Dimitrova. The picture book draws on Caleo’s professional experience and portrays a community’s encounter with Ebola through the story of a ten-year-old girl and her grandmother, a traditional healer.

The Secret of the Bush was published by Salammbo Press in paperback on 10 March 2025 (ISBN 9781068320101).
