Recommended reading books for primary & secondary aged children in the UK
Chae Strathie is a Scottish author known for his work in children’s literature. He has written numerous picture books, including Gorilla Loves Vanilla, Jumblebum, and The Loon on the Moon. Strathie’s books are published by Scholastic and Nosy Crow, among others.
His book The Loon on the Moon, illustrated by Emily Golden, won the Scottish Children’s Book Award in 2012. Jumblebum, illustrated by Ben Cort, has been widely used in schools and libraries. Strathie has also collaborated with illustrator Nicola O’Byrne on So You Think You’ve Got It Bad? A Kid’s Life in Ancient Egypt, published by Nosy Crow.
Before becoming a full-time author, Strathie worked as a journalist and sub-editor. He has contributed to a range of children’s titles, including Dear Dinosaur and My Hamster is a Genius. His books have been translated into several languages and are available internationally.
Chae Strathie’s Gorilla Loves Vanilla, illustrated by Nicola O’Byrne, was shortlisted for the Laugh Out Loud Book Awards (Lollies) in 2017. He continues to publish new titles with major UK children’s publishers.
