Aoife Dooley is an Irish illustrator, author, comedian, and graphic designer. She is best known for her graphic novel series Frankie’s World, published by Scholastic in 2022, which draws on her personal experiences of growing up autistic. The series has been translated into multiple languages and has received critical acclaim.
Dooley began her career with the webcomic Your One Nikita, which humorously depicted life in Dublin. This led to two published books: How to Be Massive (2016) and How to Deal with Poxes on a Daily Basis (2017). In 2018, Your One Nikita was adapted into an animated series for RTÉ Player.
In 2019, Dooley’s children’s book 123 Ireland! won the Junior Children’s Book of the Year at the An Post Irish Book Awards. She followed this with ABC Ireland! in 2022, further showcasing her distinctive illustrative style and engaging storytelling.
Beyond her work in illustration and writing, Dooley has performed stand-up comedy at various festivals, including the Vodafone Comedy Festival and Electric Picnic. She has also been a speaker at events such as OFFSET and Zeminar, discussing topics ranging from creativity to neurodiversity.
Dooley was diagnosed as autistic at the age of 27, a revelation that has significantly influenced her work. She openly shares her experiences to promote understanding and acceptance of neurodiversity.
Her contributions to literature and the arts have been recognised with several awards, including the 2023 Our Best Book Award and The Week Junior’s Illustrated Children’s Book of the Year for Frankie’s World.
