Ally Sherrick is a British author specialising in historical fiction for children. She holds a BA in Medieval History and French from Newcastle University and an MA in Writing for Children from the University of Winchester. Prior to her writing career, she worked in public relations and marketing.
Sherrick’s debut novel, Black Powder (2016), is set during the Gunpowder Plot and follows a young Catholic boy’s quest to save his father. The book won the Historical Association’s Young Quills Award in 2017. Her subsequent works include The Buried Crown (2018), a World War II adventure, and The Queen’s Fool (2021), set in Tudor England.
In 2023, Sherrick published Vita and the Gladiator, a Roman London-set story. Her latest book, Rebel Heart (2025), is set during the English Civil War and features a young girl navigating a country divided by conflict.
Sherrick is a founding member of The Time Tunnellers, a group of historical fiction authors for young people, and she actively engages with young readers through school visits and events.
