Bethany Christou biography

Bethany Christou is a British author and illustrator of children’s books. She studied at the Cambridge School of Art, where she completed the MA in Children’s Book Illustration. Her debut picture book, Slow Samson, was published by Templar Publishing in 2019. The book tells the story of a sloth named Samson and explores themes of friendship and patience.

Christou’s second picture book, Nervous Nigel, was published by Templar Publishing in 2020. The story follows a nervous crocodile who overcomes his fears. Both books have been noted for their distinctive illustration style and gentle humour.

Her work has been recognised by the Macmillan Prize for Illustration, where she was shortlisted in 2016. Christou’s illustrations have also appeared in anthologies and other collaborative projects. She continues to write and illustrate picture books for young children.

Her most recent published work is Nervous Nigel (2020).
