Lesley Sims biography

Lesley Sims is a British children’s author and editor. She is linked with Usborne Publishing, where she has written and edited hundreds of children’s books, including rhyming stories, fairy-tale retellings, first-reading titles and illustrated nonfiction.

Sims studied law at university and qualified as a barrister before moving into publishing. She joined Usborne in 1993 as a fiction editor and later worked on puzzle fiction and humorous history books.

Her books include Bee Makes Tea, Crow in the Snow, Mole in a Hole, Moon Zoom, Knight Fight and One Little Seed. She has also retold classic stories for young readers, including Alice in Wonderland, The Secret Garden, A Christmas Carol and The Snow Queen.

Sims has worked on Usborne’s Young Reading and First Reading titles, Handbooks and Treasuries. Her work also includes recording books in Usborne’s studio, linking her editorial role with audio production for young listeners.

A Visitor’s Guide to Ancient Rome, a spoof tourist guide to the city in the Roman Empire, won the Times Educational Supplement Senior Information Book Award in 2000.
