Christiane Dorion is a children’s writer and educational consultant whose non-fiction books focus on science, nature, environmental systems and sustainability. She moved from Canada to the UK to carry out a PhD in environmental education, then worked for WWF-UK for eight years. In 2002, she left that role to become an educational consultant and writer.
Dorion teaches about sustainable development and writes books intended to help children explore how the world works and how people can protect it. Her book How the Weather Works, illustrated by Beverley Young, is part of the Explore the Earth series and introduces readers aged 7 to 10 to rain, snow, sunshine, sleet, hurricanes, tornadoes and human influence on Earth’s climate.
Her STEM title Invented by Animals, illustrated by Gosia Herba, explains how animal anatomy, behaviour and skills have influenced human inventions. The book won the Blue Peter Book Award for Best Book with Facts in 2022, after a vote by more than 300 children from 12 schools across the UK.
How the Weather Works was published as a Templar Books paperback on 13 August 2024.
