Our review:

A wiggle-jiggle-jive, funky chicken and cha-cha mixed with community spirit, dazzle & glitter. Dance Just Like So has its own fast rhythm that carries you through the story at a fast pace and quickens your pulse.

Kwesi is keen to learn the Shooby Doo Mambo from his Nan who runs a dance class. When she injures herself who will teach him? Kwesi struggles with everyday tasks without music in his life and the tale follows Kwesi as he looks for a solution.

I love that Kwesi’s journey reflects that even when the odds are against you, a bit of practice and imagination means you can still achieve what you want and even teach yourself. There’s a lovely multi-generational / diverse community feel to this story, and Kwesi’s home is, an everyone is welcome environment.

Any children who are a bit musical, theatrical or like to dance, will love this. Those who aren’t interested in music and dance might be influenced to learn an instrument, sing or dance and embrace the “boogielicious beat” vibe.

The energetic illustrations are a bright assortment of colours and patterns with a scattering of musical notes, swirls and glitter. It’s hard not to feel inspired by the pictures and rhythm of the story and it is likely to lift your mood and make you want to get up and dance.

Many thanks to Five Quills for the review copy.
